Alternative Choices for Cooking Gifts

Every single day, we take to the kitchen and cook. People who know how expensive it is to eat at restaurants prefer to cook, whether they’re good at it or not. There are people among us who think cooking is art. Food can be delicious and beautiful on a whole new level for these people. The greatest restaurants around the world all started with a good cook with a great idea. Here are some of the gifts you can give these people.

Alternative Choices for Cooking Gifts

1. A Knife Set Made of the Best Steel

In cooking, a chef needs to cut each morsel perfectly. Buying a set of knives is a good way of ensuring that each knife is of good quality. Knife quality matters because a chef may not have the time to sharpen his knives more than a few times a week. Brand sometimes plays a big part in the quality of the knife. For good measure, you can throw in a good whetting stone.

Consider the knife skills of the recipient. Other factors to consider are the skills of the wielder and the comfortable grip on the knife. There are knife designs that suit left handed people more. Ergonomic handles are a must. Remember that hands get tired easily during cooking.

2. High Quality Pans and Pots

A chef cannot do without the best quality pots. In particular, they really are very picky when it comes to the pots they use to cook dishes. Some pots are made of stainless steel. Some pots are non-stick. It’s better to get these as a part of a cooking set. A set usually includes small sauce pans and bigger ones for braising.

Better dishes are made using good cooking equipment. Even cooking is attainable if the pot is well balanced. A dented pot will not cook a dish evenly. A chef always knows what to do with a good set of pots.

3. Equipment for Grilling

Grills are almost always needed to make a stunning dish. A griller can sear a meat or a fish quickly. Unfortunately, the traditional grill can be an extremely difficult piece of equipment for a chef. Modern grills have features that traditional grills don’t have. Modern grills can also be very easy to clean.

One good feature of modern grills is temperature control. A griller can simply check if the heat is too high, or if the heat isn’t enough to cook the meat. The best grilling equipment can lead to barbecue competition trophies.

Enjoy St Lucias Culinary Delights

Whilst the majority of chefs in St. Lucia rely heavily upon the spices and garnishes of Creole cuisine, the islands fish fries and hotel restaurants ensure that they offer a variety of different dishes that suit the needs of most holidaymakers.

Food

The way in which St Lucian food is produced is not exactly unique or exotic. However, what makes St Lucian foods stand out is the attention that the chefs pay to detail. The presentation of the food is particularly important to St Lucian chefs, though the cost is never the taste. It is very fortunate that the fertile soil of the island produces foods that are full of flavour and tasty, and the animals that eat these foods benefit from the natural bounty. This allows the chefs time to focus on the appearance of their dishes rather than the taste.

The St. Lucian diet mainly consists of limited protein, lots of starches and fruits and vegetables. The typical protein choices vary considerably from that of most American travellers who will be used to chicken back, pork hocks. There is plenty of seafood available in St Lucia, however most tourists usually stick to dining on tuna, mahi mahi and snapper. St Lucias specialities include conch, plantains, green figs and salt fish.

Beverages

Make the most of your holiday by experiencing the most tropical of beverages, coconut water which is drank directly from the split husk of the fruit. Fresh fruit juices are also ideal for those seeking cool refreshment. Furthermore, coffee and tea is readily available all over the island for those looking for home comforts.

Rum is the most popular alcoholic drink in St. Lucia, further to this; the island has its own distillery which provides easy access to this refreshing beverage. Piton is a top local beer and coffee liqueurs are favourites. If youre looking to blend in with the locals then drinking a shandy mixed with beer, ginger ale, lemon or sorrel is the ideal way to mix with the locals.

Holidaymakers can suit themselves with regards to their own culinary tastes and budgets in St. Lucia. Whether the evening dinner brings with it excitement or relaxation, many of the local inhabitants treat dinner as the ideal time for hanging out.

Foods To Eat During Ivf

A poor diet can wreak havoc with your fertility and what you consume is so important that it can make the difference between a successful pregnancy or not, whether via the medium of IVF or conventional methods. If you are about to undergo IVF treatment then you will want to do everything possible to maximize your chances of success and one of the many ways you can do this is by looking carefully at the foods to eat during IVF.

In many respects, it is wrong to only consider your diet during the procedure itself. It is vital that you take steps beforehand to eat the right kinds of foods to promote fertility and prepare your body to receive the embryo.

Eating a diet for optimal health is a good starting point. This will mean eating plenty of organic fresh fruits and vegetables, organic dairy produce, wholegrains, lean meats, beans, nuts and seeds and drinking plenty of water. Of course what you don’t eat is vitally important too. You should avoid foods which contain additives and preservatives and those which contains saturated and trans-fats. We can group other bad choices in here such as drinking alcohol, smoking and the use of drugs. (This sometimes includes prescription drugs-you should check with your doctor).

Before we consider the must-have foods to eat during IVF, the principles of a fertility diet are as follows:-

* Eat 4-6 moderately sized meals a day
* Snacking is fine in moderation and as long as the foods are healthy
* Warm foods are better than cold
* Drink plenty of filtered water between meals, rather than with meals themselves
* Chew food well
* Lightly steam or bake vegetables

During IVF, certain foods are thought to help with implantation and these include pineapple, nuts and leafy green vegetables.

* Pineapple-The compound Bromelin, found in pineapple is believed by many to increase the chances of success. Bromelin can dissolve the proteins which may inhibit implantation and many women have attributed their success, at least in part, to eating pineapple. Take an average sized pineapple and divide it into 5 portions. Eat a portion a day beginning with embryo transfer day.

* Nuts-Certain nuts contain Omega3 fatty acids which are a contributory factor in the manufacture of prostraglandin which is essential for conception. Although oily fish is a good source, there is some concern about the levels of contaminents in certain fish. Walnuts are a good alternative source.

* Dark Green Leafy Vegetables-Certainly on the list of foods to eat during IVF, leafy vegetables are a good source of Folic Acid which, in turn, is essential for the formation of new cells and helping them survive. In addition, women who include folic acid rich foods before conception tend to produce healthier eggs.

Jambalaya cooking secrets

Creole-Cajun style Jambalaya cuisine is a highly versatile style of cooking that has become very popular; it is a one-pot dish cooked in cast iron Jambalaya pots.

Cooking Jambalaya is more of an art than a science these days as it has become firmly entrenched as part of our American heritage. But there is one important thing to appreciate; it just isnt Jambalaya if it isnt cooked within a traditional cast iron Jambalaya pot.

Jambalaya is a southern dish arising out of Louisianas rice production and all its traditions. Rice is a fundamental part of all Jambalaya dishes; it absorbs all the flavors of all the other ingredients giving us all those beautiful and distinctive tastes we have come to love.

Now to an important rule. After the rice has been added, the jambalaya should be turned but never stirred. This is to prevent the grains of rice from breaking up. Usually a jambalaya dish is turned just three times after the rice is added with the cook scooping from the bottom of the pot to mix the rice evenly with all the other ingredients. In larger pots shovels are used to turn the Jambalaya!

Jambalaya recipes can be made up from beef, fresh pork, chicken, duck, shrimp, oysters, crayfish or sausage, combined typically with onions, garlic, tomatoes, cayenne pepper, green peppers, celery and other seasoning; and of course, the all important long grained white rice. The typical preparation of Jambalaya involves creating a rich stock from vegetables, meat, and seafood whereupon white-grained long rice is added and the flavors absorbed as the rice cooks.

At its heart Jambalaya is a highly seasoned rice dish that is strongly flavored with mixes of meat and seafood

The most common jambalaya dish is Creole jambalaya or red jambalaya. This dish originates from the French Quarter of New Orleans. Here typically chicken and sausage are browned, then vegetables and tomatoes are added and cooked. This is then followed by the addition of mixed seafood and then at the end rice and stock are added. The mixture is then left to simmer for 20 to 60 minutes.

The story goes that Creole-Jambalaya was a best stab, by the Spanish at making the traditional Spanish paella at a time when saffron was too costly due to import costs. As a result tomatoes were substitute for saffron. As time passed Caribbean spices were added and altogether this turned a best attempt at making a paella into a new dish called Jambalaya.

A second Jambalaya dish, popular in southwest and south-central Louisiana, is Cajun jambalaya; a dish that contains no tomatoes. The meat is browned in a cast-iron pot and removed then onions, celery, and green peppers are added and cooked until soft. Stock and seasonings are added and the meats returned to the pot. The mixture is then left to simmer for one hour and then finally rice is added to the pot. The Jambalaya is then covered and left to simmer over a low heat for half an hour without stirring.

Causes Of Excessive Sweating Eating Spicy Foods

Every day, about 2.5 percent of people all over the world are worried about the problem of sweating too much. It’s a condition that is experienced by millions of people of different nationalities, gender, lifestyles and ages. Men and women aged between 13 to 62 are still bothered by excessive sweating. The condition is common in puberty and for athletic individuals yes, but there are plenty of people who still sweat buckets while sitting in an airconditioned room attending a board meeting or class.

This leads us to ask what could be the causes of excessive sweating and what can we do to address the problem?

As the old saying goes “we are what we eat”. This still holds true in the case of excessive sweating since it has been proven that people who are affected by this condition should do something to change their eating habits. Let me explain: sweating is a natural process wherein the human body flushes out harmful substances or chemicals that we may have ingested. It’s something that happens 24 hours a day and it’s what keeps our bodies from getting poisoned by what we eat- fatty foods, foods laden with preservatives, rich in sugars, high in caffeine. All of these do nothing but worsen the condition of excessive sweating.

An improper diet and poor eating habits are in fact one of the top causes of excessive sweating in most people. Many don’t realize this, but the more bad stuff we put in our bodies means that our systems have to work overtime in order to flush them out. It is no cause for wonder why the excretory system is producing buckets and buckets of sweat just to try to rid itself of harmful food substances.

What Foods Should You Avoid?

After coming to your senses that what you are eating is what’s causing you to sweat profusely you must take the next step of correcting your eating habits. Foods rich in spices not only make you smell bad but they also stimulate the production of tons of sweat. Sweating while eating spicy food means that your body is regulating it’s internal temperature. If you want to look nice on that first date, make sure you do not order the chili or anything spicy for that matter.

That being said, it would also be wise to cut down on processed foods or preserved goodies. Salts and chemicals used in the preparation or packaging of these foods are also harmful to your body. You would be sweating a lot just to eliminate this from your system, which would again make your problem of excessive sweating more pronounced. If you want to stop the problem of hyperhidrosis the most important thing that you can do is be conscious of the kinds of food you eat.

Who Qualifies As A Food Handler

Did you know that even a hostess filling in water glasses is considered to be a food handler in Texas? Most restaurant and food processors in the Golden State do not realise this, but the necessary rules are falling into place and it is now time for the owners of such establishments to sit down and figure out; who actually qualifies as certified food handler and who does not.

Quite frankly, a food handler is any employee or owner who comes into contact with food either directly (like a server in a restaurant) or indirectly (as a helper who works on a food processing conveyor belt with the machinery). Simply put, anybody who works at any time with unpackaged food, food equipment or utensils, or food contact surfaces can qualify as a food handler. Why do owners of restaurants and food related businesses need to know this?

Knowing who qualifies as a food handler in a restaurant enables owners to know for sure, who comes in contact with the food being served and who does not. Once they have figured that out, it is up to them (owners) to get those employees certified; meaning that owners get an assurance that those food handlers are certified and are clear about the hygienic practices of preparing and serving food.

A certification is all that makes a difference to business owners because a California food handlers card is mandatory in the eyes of the health department. Moreover, apart from providing an assurance that employees are aware of the hygienic practices related to the storage, handling and processing of food, they also often end up with a clean chit when it comes to a restaurant inspection. This is because all employees are aware about the rules of hygiene and hence follow and maintain them at the work place. Having a food handlers permit in California also gives employers a better idea about the individuals they are about to recruit; giving them peace of mind when it comes to food safety at the restaurant. This becomes really critical when it comes to mobile food stands in california which are either franchisees or privately owned and operated.

Apart from keeping owners and their businesses safe in the eyes of the health department, the humble food handlers card in California protects the community, giving them safe and hygienic food they can consume, without the fear of falling ill.
